Dr. Sama Banaei was born and raised in Calgary and always envisioned a career in dentistry. Since a young age, he dedicated his life to pursuing this passion. After completing his French Immersion Diploma he received his degree in Biological Sciences with Distinction here at the University of Calgary. His childhood dream turned to reality when he went to the University of Alberta and gained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
While completing his doctorate, Dr. Banaei worked alongside the School of Dentistry and created an initiative called Pathways to Dentistry. He was a mentor to prospective dental students across Alberta and broke ground on a scholarship program for low socioeconomic status students that desired to pursue dentistry. This initiative is the first of its kind at any dental school in Canada. In addition, he volunteered internationally in Guatemala providing dental treatment to underserved populations as well as locally in McLennan, Alberta and the SHINE Clinic in Edmonton. For his contributions while in dental school Dr. Banaei was awarded the Western Canada Dental Student Society Fellowship Award.
Dr. Banaei takes a very patient centered care approach to dentistry and continually strives to provide his best to every patient he sees. He is constantly learning and enjoys all the different areas of dentistry. He takes pride in getting to know his patients and developing good relationships. Attentive and empathetic, Dr. Banaei enjoys helping his patients in developing and executing on a treatment plan tailored to their specific needs.
As an absolutely fanatical Calgary Flames fan, he enjoys talking about anything related to hockey. He’s also a competitive basketball player and enjoys discovering new music. He looks forward to continuing to root himself in the community and growing with the city he loves.
